Richard passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Heritage at Fountain Point in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Richard John “Dick” Hilliges, son of John and Helen (Porter) Hilliges was born October 5, 1931, on the family farm south of Stanton, Nebraska. Dick attended numerous country schools and graduated from Stanton High School in 1949.
While in high school, Dick worked at a filling station/auto repair shop and drove a grain and cattle truck for his father. He entered the Army in 1952, then returned to driving for local trucking companies until purchasing his own semi/unit driving cross country as owner operator with Warren Transport in Waterloo, Iowa. Dick semi-retired around 2001 but continued driving part time. After a total of over 60 years driving trucks, he officially retired.
Dick was united in marriage to Margaret Wieneke on January 29, 1955, at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton. Dick and Margaret were neighbors to each other for over six years before he called her one April afternoon in 1954 to see a movie. He said, "I loved her when I met her, but fell deeper in love with her every year." He sold his stock car in June of the same year for an engagement ring, and they were married the following January. To this union they had four sons and a daughter.
Dick enjoyed adventures on his motorcycles and snowmobiles over the years and accumulated entertaining stories along the way which he would tell with a twinkle in his eyes. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Dick and his wife Margaret spent their time enjoying family gatherings, attending their grandchildren's school games and activities and joyously watching their families grow with each grandchild and great-grandchild along the way.
Dick and Margaret celebrated 71 years of marriage a few weeks ago.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Margaret; sons, Ron (Sandy) Hilliges of Stanton, Dave (Lori) Hilliges of Norfolk, Dan (Sherri) Hilliges of Ashland; daughter, Donna (Don) Molacek of Howells; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Kingley and Janet Roenfeldt; son, John H. Hilliges; and grandson, Anthony J. Hilliges.
